Product Comparison...Quick Curls vs. Goddess Curls

Ok, so I have been absent for a little while. I have been kinda busy, especially this past weekend, but mainly I just haven't wanted to get on the computer at all. I stare at a computer almost all day at work so doing anything on the PC at home feels exhausting. Nevertheless, I wanted to show some results from my last product trials.

First, let me say that I have been fighting a lot with my hair lately. It was too soft, then too dry, then too frizzy...I was so lost with what to do (and I'm not sure I have it all figured out yet). I did realize that when my hair is too soft, it needs protein. When it's too dry, it needs moisture (no protein or very little). And when it's frizzy, who the heck knows what it needs.

So I tried Miss Jessie's Quick Curls first. I hate the smell...really really hate the smell. I'm not sure why it doesn't agree with my nose but luckily it was ok with my scalp. The results were pretty good though. As with anything else, I always leave a little conditioner on my hair before applying any styling product. I just found that no styling product is heavy enough for my hair. Quick Curls comes close. Anywho, after it was completely dry, my hair was soft and "curlicious". I really liked it but you judge for yourself.

Then last night my hair was a frizzy mess and I made an impulse purchase at Target. Goddess Curls by Curls for Target. I had only read a few reviews about this product but thought, for $7.99, it was worth a try. So this morning, after washing and conditioning my hair, I added a little Yes To Cucumbers and twisted each detangled section...there were about 7 sections in total. I untwisted one section at a time, adding 5-7 pumps of Goddess Curls and smoothed it in. It was similar to Kinky Curly Curling Custard but clumped better. All-in-all, I like this too.

My conclusion: I'll use Quick Curls when humidity is lower since it has very little hold and use the Goddess Curls during high humidity. Both winners in my book!!!

Until next time...

Coils...

So here they are...my coils. For me this style is nostalgic. My mom used to do my hair like this all the time when I was little (I called them Shirley Temple curls back then). Most often, she would do a side pony-tail and then coil the ends. I remember being in a play and a teacher trying to comb out the coils before the play began. My mom was pissed...lol!!!

I decided to try this because I've seen some great coil-out pics and I so wanted that look. One day I'll realize that wash-n-go's work for me and leave the "styling" to someone else but for now, I'd like to try to make something work. Anyway, I'm not in love with my coil-out. While I got plenty of compliments and my hair was ridiculously soft (my daughter said it was silky), I thought the style itself was blah and resembled dreadlocks. What do you think?!?!?

By the way, the coils were done on the 4th day of a Kinky-Curly Curling Custard application after wetting my hair a little.

Been experimenting...

It's Tuesday and I had a great Memorial Day weekend! I cooked Sunday (oven fried chicken, greens, and roasted red potatoes); it was good! I love cooking for people and watching them enjoy my food. Monday my parents grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, steak (I think but I'm not into steak so I didn't get any), shrimp, veggies, and corn on the cob. They also fixed a tossed salad just to round out the meal. Yummy!!! I hope everyone had as good a weekend as I did!

So let me back up a little to Friday. I was working from home and didn't do anything to my hair. It looked a hot mess! I hadn't washed (or combed) it in a few days, trying to get the most out of my Mixed Chicks application so it needed some TLC. I decided to go back to the Kinky-Curly Curling Custard and try again. I only had a little bit of Knot Today left so I had to get creative. Here's what I did:

1. Washed with Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo...love this shampoo because it smells delicious, has no sulfates, and I can even detangle with it!!!
2. Deep conditioned with a mix of Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition 3-Minute Undo and Virgin Coconut Oil for about 1.5 hrs.
3. Rinsed and co-washed with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.
4. Applied the rest of the Knot Today and supplemented with Yes To Cucumbers to detangle.
5. With a heavy hand, applied the Curling Custard in sections, finger combing each section (in retrospect, i probably finger combed too much because I had very little "clump-age").

Ta Da...I think it looked great! My hair didn't swell up like usual and still had plenty of body. What do you think?

Day 1

Day 2 - It was really humid so by Day 3 my hair needed to be refreshed but I didn't feel like it so it was a little frizzy.

I'm experimenting with coils and a coil out next. I'll post pics!

Until next time...
